This is my little space on the internet where I wear my heart on my sleeve, where I keep it real and above all, where I hope to encourage others. I share my life with you, not because I think I’m awesome, but because I believe that life is meant to be shared. And maybe, just maybe, God will use my story, experiences and randomness to encourage you in your life.
Words really can’t describe how special this shoot was to me but I will try anyway. Kim + Devin have become close friends of ours over the past year. I first had the pleasure of having them in front of my camera sometime last spring. They were such good subjects and I couldn’t wait to get them in front of my camera again But this time I wanted to go all out with a styled shoot! I ran the idea by them one night while they were over and they both agreed it would be fun. A couple days later I got a Facebook message from Devin entitled “Kim”. Hmmm I wonder what this is? When I read the contents of the message I almost peed my pants with excitement! Devin asked if we could use the styled shoot as a means to propose to Kim. Oh. my. GOSH! I had always wanted to be a part of something like this, and the fact that it was Kim + Devin was the icing on the cake! The best part was, Kim had NO idea. I went about planning their “styled shoot” and even had Kim help me choose the location and outfits. She was planning her proposal and she didn’t even know it! Aren’t friends so sneaky sometimes?! I wanted this to be super special for them so I went all out making props and designing it. The theme was DIY shabby chic. I couldn’t have been happier with how the scene turned out. Meanwhile, Devin + I devised a plan of how it would go down at the actual shoot. We decided it wouldn’t be a good idea for him to have the ring in his pocket during the shoot. If he kept it in the box, she would surely see it and I didn’t want him to risk having it loose in his pocket. SO we decided that Joe was going to have to hold on to it. Gulp. So when K+D arrived I told Joe to “go to the car to make sure we had everything” and Devin offered to go with. That’s when the transfer went down. Phase one complete! Then I went about taking photos like I normally would, trying to act natural. Once it was time for the proposal, I suggested that Joe do photos of Devin somewhere while I took photos of Kim. That’s when Joe gave the ring back to Devin. Phase two complete! Devin knew that was the cue and that I would set them up for “one more pose”. I told them to act natural and pretend I wasn’t there. I could feel my heart pounding louder and my palms getting sweaty as I anticipated the moment. And then it happened. He got down on one knee and asked Kim to be his wife. It was SO hard for me to keep quiet because I just wanted to scream with giddiness. It was one of the most amazing things that I have ever been a part and I am forever grateful. Kim + Devin, we are SO blessed to have your in our lives. Your friendship is something we cherish and we can’t tell you how much it meant to be a part of this most joyous occasion in your life. Know that we will continue to be there for many other blessings that come your way. We love you both!
